As part of our learning in English this half term, Year 2 have been exploring the traditional tale of Little Red Riding Hood. In order to immerse ourselves in the story, we visited Seven Stories Centre for Children’s Books. Seven Stories is a free entry visitor centre and museum in Newcastle upon Tyne that is dedicated to collecting, preserving and celebrating children’s books. Previously, Seven Stories charged for entry to the museum for families but now offer free admission (unless taking part in a workshop). We certainly recommend a visit as they often have wonderful seasonal events on throughout the year. As part of our visit, we took part in a traditional tales workshop with a fantastic storyteller. We explored different fairytales and had to solve clues to unravel each story and put the stories back together. The children were then able to invent and create their own magical story doors! After lunch, we enjoyed some free time in the centre, exploring the exhibitions and even had time to visit the beautiful bookshop. The children loved having the freedom to choose their very own book to buy and take home.
