Year 5 Trip to Beamish Museum

Year 5 had a fantastic trip to Beamish Museum. This trip brought our Industrial Revolution History unit to life and we experienced lots of aspects of Victorian life. The children investigated the death of a 9 year old miner, James White. They had to interview different members of the community including the manager of the mine, his neighbour and his colleague to determine the cause of death! Children also had the opportunity to go into a mine and experience what working conditions were like for boys and men. We then explored the town – learning about the different numbing options (or lack there of !) at the Dentist, the sweet shop, the cinema and the police station. We then hopped on the bus back to the Pit Village before heading back to school. The children gained so much first-hand experience of life during the Victorian times and are eager to return!
